Remembrance Day 2025

This weekend I recorded a short video about my great-grandfather and the Battle of Festubert (May 1915). Part of the spring fighting in Artois after Aubers Ridge, Festubert saw limited ground gained at heavy cost. Our family’s story is just one thread in that wider tapestry.

In the video I draw on a personal artefact and regimental records to trace his steps and the conditions his unit faced. It’s a reminder that remembrance is not abstract; it’s names, places and choices, preserved in paper and stone.

If you choose to watch the video, please note it includes references to casualties and trench warfare.

We will remember them.
